Congress Clarifies Position on Talks in Advance of National Day of Action

In advance of the National Day of Action on Friday, November 6, Congress wishes to state clearly that there are currently NO talks taking place between Congress and Government on a possible new National Agreement.

The only discussions currently taking place are those between the public sector unions and Government as their employer, on possible reductions in the public sector pay bill and related matters.

Congress is not currently engaged in any talks with Government regarding a new National Agreement.

Demonstrations will take place on Friday November 6, in support of the Congress 10 Point Plan for National Recovery - There is a Better, Fairer Way. They will be held in eight locations: Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Sligo, Tullamore, and Dundalk. All members of the public are invited to attend. All demonstrations start at 2.30pm.

The Northern Ireland Committee of Congress is also planning a series of protests against threatened cutbacks in its jurisdiction.
